vanilla-scented power outtage

We had a couple of our friends over for dinner last night, and as we were wrapping up our evening; the lights flickered and went out. We stood there in the darkness, laughing to ourselves because the weather was calm and the electric bill was paid. Our guests left and we tried to get the kids in bed. They were too excited by the fact that they got to take their flashlights everywhere with them, so they wouldn't calm down and get into bed.
We called our power company, who was aware of the outtage, but didn't know the cause of it. As we looked around outside, the neighbors across the street has power, but not a single person on our block did. The power company said that it would be anywhere from 4-6 more hours of darkness, as they figured out the problem.
The kids eventually got settled down and Ryan and I didn't know what to do! He wanted to watch some History Channel and I wanted to play Lego Star Wars, both of which requiring electricity. So we lit some candles and decided on doing a crossword puzzle together when the power came back on. It was only out for an hour, but we were kinda disappointed when it came back on! It was a little fun to walk room-to-room by (vanilla-scented) candle light!

Sounds like you to make a fun memory out of something inconvenient! I could picture the flashing lights of the kids' flashlights everywhere and the excited little voices...no wonder they weren't all that interested in sleeping. (Have I told you lately that you're a good mom?!)
