vanilla-scented power outtage

We had a couple of our friends over for dinner last night, and as we were wrapping up our evening; the lights flickered and went out. We stood there in the darkness, laughing to ourselves because the weather was calm and the electric bill was paid. Our guests left and we tried to get the kids in bed. They were too excited by the fact that they got to take their flashlights everywhere with them, so they wouldn't calm down and get into bed.
We called our power company, who was aware of the outtage, but didn't know the cause of it. As we looked around outside, the neighbors across the street has power, but not a single person on our block did. The power company said that it would be anywhere from 4-6 more hours of darkness, as they figured out the problem.
The kids eventually got settled down and Ryan and I didn't know what to do! He wanted to watch some History Channel and I wanted to play Lego Star Wars, both of which requiring electricity. So we lit some candles and decided on doing a crossword puzzle together when the power came back on. It was only out for an hour, but we were kinda disappointed when it came back on! It was a little fun to walk room-to-room by (vanilla-scented) candle light!

wrong number

I was reading Ryanna's scrapbook the other day when I stumbled across a hilarious story that I wanted to share:

It was fall of 2006, and this four-year-old was anxious to grow up. Evidentally, Ryan was gone, I was in the shower and Dawson was asleep. When I got out of the shower, I listened for Ryanna, who was just in her room was talking to herself. I went about my business doing dishes, and several minutes later, she walked up to me and handed me the phone. I was awfully confused as the phone didn't ring.

I said, "Hello?" and this poor older lady sheepishly asked, "Is Ruth there?" I apologized and told her she had the wrong number and she was so sweet about talking to my chatty daughter for so long! Poor, poor lady.

I doubt that she'll dial our number by accident again!

indiana jones fever

I was listening to a John Williams collection CD in the car when the kids both shouted excitedly, "Hey! It's the t.v. commercial song!" I was listening to the theme from Indiana Jones and they knew it because of all the previews for the new movie that's coming out this week! (my kids don't watch that much t.v. either, that's the impressive part)

Thanks to my mom for hooking me on those wonderful Harrison Ford movies when I was a kid. I'm so excited for the movie to come out, hopefully Ryan and I can see it while it's in the theater.

We're also so stoked about the new INDIANA JONES LEGO GAME! We love the Star Wars Lego game, so I can only imagine how much fun we'd have with the other one. I don't even think it's made for Gamecube! Bummer.
